Due to a chronic case of pneumonia, I was forced to resign from teaching children. I began searching for another job.   In meditation, an idea of getting a government job came to me for security and benefits. In casual conversation with my friend Rob who worked in Washington, DC, he decided to help me by getting an appointment with the Personnel Manager of The City of Washington.

After a two hour, appointment he shook my hand and told me that I was the most right brained individual he had ever interviewed. He recommended the National Gallery or the Endowment for the Arts. I walked around the Gallery one day and imagined myself teaching others about the paintings and getting paid well. Looking at the applications for jobs, a masters degree was required in Art. My credentials was a BA in Latin American Studies. I was reading about creative visualization and decided that if it is meant to be I would get a job there anyway.

I felt directed to go to an outdoor play alone so I walked through the woods to a seat. A lady sitting next to me turned and asked me if I worked at the National Gallery. I replied that I was getting a resume ready for there. She asked me what I wanted to do. After an invitation to lunch on the roof of the Gallery where I could see the entire city, I was offered an interview. I was told that there would be many applicants. I bought a suit from Goodwill since I had spent lots of money on my students and medical expenses. Two weeks was the time I was told to wait for an answer.   Two days later I received the call that I got the job escorting VIP’s through the exhibits and describing the paintings.

How has your life been changed as a result of your ordeal?

I realized that what seemed like a closed door was actually an opportunity to walk through the door to a better opportunity. I also gave myself the chance to focus on art, a passion of mine.

What would you advise another facing similar circumstances based on what you have learned?

I would advise anyone looking for a job to take the time to ask God for his will and meditate on it. Listening and following the gut feelings we receive is a way to walk on your own path, not one that others or our own ego thinks we should be on. Trust that you will be led no matter the obstacles. I love to say Father Knows Best.

Thank you – if you would, please tell us a bit about yourself.
